NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware volleyball team will play its first conference home matches of the season this weekend when the Blue Hens host Northeastern and Hofstra in a pair of 7 p.m. matches this Friday and Saturday at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Delaware enters the weekend 9-6 overall and has won nine of its last 12 matches, including last Friday’s 3-0 victory at Towson in the Blue Hens’ Colonial Athletic Association opener. Katie Hank posted a team-high 11 kills and hit .409 against the Tigers, while Liz Brock added a career-best 10 kills as she hit .333 on the night.
Chandler Bryant contributed seven kills and went over the 200-kill mark for her career, while Mackenzie Olsen handed out 37 assists. Ariel Shonk had 14 digs to pace the UD defensive effort, while Jill Meyers made three blocks.
Katie Hillman continues to pace the Blue Hens and ranks third in the league with 3.32 kills per set, while Hank is ninth at 2.86 kills per set. Olsen leads the CAA with 9.76 assists per set, Shonk is second with 5.27 digs, and Meyers ranks fourth with 1.02 blocks.
Northeastern enters Friday’s match with an 8-7 overall record while Hofstra is 10-6 on the year, and both squads are 1-1 in the CAA after defeating UNCW and falling to the College of Charleston last weekend.
Kelly Bacon leads the Huskies with 221 kills this season, while her 3.56 kills per set are second highest in the league. Nichole Kurz has added 104 kills and is third in the CAA with a .289 hitting percentage, while Natalia Skiba paces the conference and ranks third in Division I with 6.03 digs per set.
Hofstra is led by Kelsie Wills, who has recorded 264 kills and leads the CAA with 4.55 kills per set. Sophia Black has recorded a team-high 149 digs for the Pride, which features eight players with at least 20 blocks.
The Blue Hens have won five straight home matches against both Northeastern and Hofstra, and have captured 32 of their last 35 CAA home contests dating back to the 2009 season.
UD will be looking to turn the BOB blue on Friday, as the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a blue t-shirt compliments of the National 5 & 10 while all fans are encouraged to wear Delaware Blue to the match. Saturday’s match will be Turn Back the Clock night, as the Blue Hens will be wearing vintage uniforms while music from various decades will be played throughout the night. Additionally, postgame autographs with the entire team will take place immediately following both matches.
