NEWARK, Del. -- Elena Delle Donne, who continues to make history and turn heads with her outstanding play on the basketball court of the University of Delaware, is the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for Dec. 5.

athlete photoDelle Donne, a 6-5 junior guard/forward from Wilmington, Del. (Ursuline Academy), led the No. 24 ranked and undefeated Blue Hens to a perfect 2-0 week as Delaware knocked off Ivy League power Princeton Thursday night on the road and opened Colonial Athletic Association action with a 73-57 win over William & Mary Sunday at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Blue Hens are now off to their best start in school history at 6-0 heading into a home game vs. Yale on Monday, Dec. 5, and a road game at Atlantic Coast Conference contender Wake Forest on Sunday.

Delle Donne, the preseason CAA Player of the Year as well as a member of virtually every preseason national Player of the Year list, showed just why this week as she scored 23 points while pulling nine rebounds and dishing out five assists vs. William & Mary. She led all scorers with 28 points while also pulling down seven rebounds in the victory over Yale.

She scored Delaware's first 11 points of the game and 16 of the first 18 in the victory over Yale as the Hens built a 22-point halftime lead and never looked back.

For her efforts, Delle Donne was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the third time this season.

An early childhood education major and an ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-American candidate, Delle Donne has also now earned the Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week citation five times in her career.

She currently leads the nation in scoring at 29.3 points per game and dominated the CAA statistical rankings, leading the league in scoring (29.3 points per game), rebounding (10.5 rebounds per game), free throw shooting (91.9 percent), and blocked shots (3.0 per game). She also ranks No. 2 in three-point field goal percentage (.588), and No. 4 in field goal percentage (.574).
