NEWARK, Del. -- Katie Dennehy, who was named the tournament Most Valuable Player in leading the University of Delaware volleyball squad to the Colonial Athletic Association title this past weekend, is the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for Nov. 22.

Dennehy, a senior journalism major from Charlotte, N.C. (Providence High School), enjoyed an outstanding weekend as she led the No. 1 seed Blue Hens to a 3-1 win over No. 4 seed Virginia Commonwealth in Saturday's semifinals before coming back on Sunday to lead the Hens to a grueling 3-2 win over No. 3 seed Northeastern in the title game at Barbara Viera Court.
The Hens (25-5), who ran their winnning streak to 14 matches, captured their third CAA Tournament title in the last four seasons and earned the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA field will be announced this Sunday, Nov. 28 on ESPNews.
A first team All-CAA selection, Dennehy registered 17 kills and hit .368 against VCU to lead the Blue Hens to the semifinal victory. She also added four digs and two blocks.
In the thrilling championship match win over Northeastern, Dennehy led the way as she recorded a team-high 21 kills on .113 hitting and added 15 digs and three blocks.
“Katie is the pulse of our team," said Delaware head coach Bonnie Kenny. "She had to be tonight and she was."
For the season, Dennehy is hitting .225 on a team-high 388 kills to go with 40 service aces and 236 digs.
