NEWARK, Del. -- Senior Hannah Facchine, who won five events over two meets to lead the University of Delaware women's swimming and diving team to a 1-1 week, is the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 30.

(William Enloe High School), Facchine won three events on Wednesday night as Delaware defeated Widener 194-64 in her final performance at Rawstrom Pool and followed by winning two events in a 177-85 setback to Colonial Athletic Association foe William & Mary on Saturday in Williamsburg, Va.

“It felt great to win my events at my last dual meet as a Blue Hen,” said Facchine. “It's been a great season and it was a great way to end it. Hopefully the momentum will help me get through our conference championship meet.”

Delaware closed out the dual meet season with a 6-4 record. The team will now take three weeks off in preparation for the Colonial Athletic Association Championships to be held Feb. 22-25 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

Facchine, a co-captain, helped Delaware dunk Widener Wednesday night as she won four events, capturing the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.07 and the 200 breaststroke with a clocking of 2:23.14.

She later teamed with Laura Askin, Tori Gillespie, and Jill Faull to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:37.16. In addition to her three wins, she also placed second in the 200 medley relay as the team of Jena Marinucci, Elise Kanegawa, and Stephanie Dodd finished second in a time of 1:51.41.

In the setback at William & Mary, Facchine was the lone double winner for the Blue Hens. She captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.41 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:22.12). She also teamed with Courtney Raw, Maggie Tracy, and Tori Gillespie to place second in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:47.90.

Facchine said the team is excited for the upcoming CAA championship meet. “Our team goals for the conference championship meet are to see everyone improve and score points in their events,” she said.

“We want to finish the season strong and as a team—with everyone cheering each other on throughout the meet. My personal goals are to have lifetime best swims and to represent Delaware as best I can.”

Facchine, who also was named the CAA Female Swimmer of the Week for her efforts, is a political science major at Delaware.
