NEWARK, Del. -- Sophomore guard Jaquetta May, who scored 18 in two tough losses for the Blue Hen women's basketball squad last week, is the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for Dec. 27.

May, a sophomore guard and human services major from Wilmington, Del. (Delcastle High School), led the Blue Hen women's basketball squad during a tough week against two top programs. Delaware fell to Penn State 66-54 on Dec 19 before dropping a 50-45 verdict at home to Saint Joseph's on Dec. 22 at the Bob Carpenter Center.
She earned the award for the first time in her career.
The Blue Hens (6-3) face another tough week as Delaware travels to Blacksburg, Va. to take part in the Hilton Garden Hokie Classic at Virginia Tech on Dec. 29-30. Delaware will take on national power Vanderbilt in the opening round and will face either the host Hokies or Alcorn State in the second round.
May, one of the team's top players off the bench, hit on 2 of 3 shots from the field and finished with four points to go with three rebounds and a steal in nine minutes of action vs. Penn State. She followed with her best effort of the season against Saint Joseph's as she scored a career-high 14 points to spark a UD comeback that fell short. She hit on 7 of 10 shots from the field to finish with 14 points while also contributing two rebounds, two assists, and four steals in 20 minutes of action.
For the week she hit on 9 of 13 shots from the field and averaged 9.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game.
