NEWARK, Del. -- Ryan Roberts, who captured two conference title and led the University of Delaware men's swimming and diving team to a third place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships this past weekend, is the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for Feb. 28.

Roberts, a sophomore engineering major from Emmaus, Pa. (Emmaus High School), earned the award for the second time this season after also being honored back on Jan. 17

A two-year standout, Roberts was the Blue Hens' top performer at the CAA Championships held this past weekend George Mason University's McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va. He helped Delaware rally over the last day to move up two spots to third, matching the team's finish each of the past three seasons. UNC Wilmington captured the team title for the men.

Roberts ranked 10th overall in the meet as he earned 40 total points for Delaware, finishing in the top four in six different events and bringing home the team's lone CAA titles individual title in the 200 backstroke with a school-record time of 1:47.59. He also teamed with Paul Gallagher, Grady Carter, and Zach Schiavo to capture the 400 freestyle relay championship with a time of 2:59.89.

He also placed second in the 200 medley relay with Ross Buckwalter Cole Clark, and Schiavo (1:30.00) and in the 400 medley relay with Buckwalter, Michael Wodoslawsky, and Schiavo, third in the 800 freestyle relay with Robert MacLeish, Zack Wheatley, and Mathew Marquez (6:41.76), and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:39.72).

He was named the CAA Male Swimmer of the Week twice earlier this season.

He is expected to compete this weekend when selected members of the squad take part in the NCAA Qualifier/Short Course Invitational at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (Ind.).
