NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware freshmen golfers Andrea Slane and Amanda Terzian, who tied for 16th place at the Colonial Athletic Association Golf Championships this past weekend, share the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week
award for the period ending April 23.
Slane (top left), a chemical engineering major from Temecula, Calif. (Great Oak High School) and Terzian (bottom left), a University Studies major from Haverford, Pa., (Episcopal Academy) had the Blue Hens best finish at the championship this weekend.
In its inaugural season, Delaware finished seventh out of 10 teams in the tournament. UNC Wilmington captured the team title with a score of 909, four strokes better than runner-up James Madison.
Charlotte Lorentzen of Georgia State was the individual winner as she shot a three-round score of 217, just one over par.
Slane carded three over par 75 on the par 72, 6,066-yard Reserve Club course at St. James Plantation in Southport, N.C., to finish with an 18 over par 80-79-75-234, the best final round for any of the Blue Hens. She opened the final found eight consecutive pars before a birdie on 3 put her at one under.
Slane was still just one over through the ninth hole, before ending the round with consecutive bogeys. Slane finishes the season with the best stroke average on the team for the spring at 79.25, and is second on the team for the entire season.
Terzian shot six over par 78 during her final round at the championship to end up 18 over par at 80-76-78-234. Terzian recorded eight pars during a one over par front nine on Sunday, and posted her lone birdie on 17 during a five over back nine.
Her stroke average during the spring is second behind Slane’s at 80.50. She also ranks fourth of the team for the entire season.
In their opening season, the Blue Hens posted three top five finishes. Delaware’s best finish this season was a fourth place at The Spider Tournament at the St. James Plantation on March 11.
