Athlete of the Week: Paul Worrilow (Football)

NEWARK, Del. -- Senior linebacker Paul Worrilow, who enjoyed a career day in leading the 15th ranked University of Delaware to a 38-14 victory over in-state rival Delaware State in the annual Route 1 Rivalry matchup Saturday at Delaware Stadium, is the National 5 & 10 Stores Inc. Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week award for the period ending Sept. 10.

Worrilow, a history education major and four-year starter All-American Candidate at Delaware, recorded a career-high 18 tackles to go with one tackle for loss and one pass breakup in a dominating effort. With his 18 tackles, he also reached the 300-tackle mark for his career. Worrilow was the only Delaware native on either team’s starting lineups.

He has started off his 2012 football campaign impressively, leading the team with 30 total tackles and helping the Hens to a perfect 2-0 start.

For his spectacular efforts, Worrilow was also named this past week’s Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week. Additionally, he received the Nate Beasley Game Most Valuable Player Award.

Worrilow has led the Hens in tackles for two consecutive seasons, and is well on his way to making Blue Hen history and becoming the first player to lead the team in tackles for three straight years.
