Recruiting Coordinator/Pitching Coach Mike Ranson

Former Lynchburg College pitching standout Mike Ranson joined the University of Delaware baseball staff in September, 2010.
He will once again serve as pitching coach for the Blue Hens in 2012 and will also have recruiting responsibilities.
"We're excited about Mike joining our staff," said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman. "He comes with a solid baseball background and has great reputation for his recruiting abilities. He is a welcome addition to the staff here at Delaware."
During his first season at Delaware in 2011, he helped guide a young staff that ranked fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association with a team earned run average of 4.59.
Prior to joining Sherman's staff, Ranson spent four seasons at Division II Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. Ranson served as both the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Saints during his tenure and had an immediate impact in recruiting with four players being named first or second team All-Conference Carolinas in his two seasons.
During the 2010, catcher Joe Maloney garnered first team all-conference accolades while outfielder Aldo Mendez also earned first team honors in 2009. Two of Ranson's pitchers were awarded second team all-conference honors during his tenure.
Prior to arriving at Limestone, Ranson spent the 2006 season as the pitching coach at Wingate University. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Lynchburg College. During his time at Lynchburg, the team was awarded NCAA Statistical Champion trophies in 2006 when the squad led the nation in team batting average (.380) and runs scored (10.8). Lynchburg also had four All-Americans, six all-region picks, and 11 all-conference players.
Ranson completed his playing career at Lynchburg College in 2003, tying the school record for career wins with 23. He finished his career ranking highly in several categories, including career innings pitched (313), career strikeouts (250), single-season strikeouts (92) and single season innings pitched (91). He earned team Rookie of the Year honors in 2000, and team Pitcher of the Year laurels in 2002 and 2003. Upon graduation, Ranson completed his master's degree in education fall of 2006 from Lynchburg.
Ranson has coached in the Cal Ripken, Valley, and Coastal Plains Summer Baseball League and has led the pitching staff of the Fauquier Gators in 2004-06. His staff led the Clark Griffith League in team earned run average in both 2004 (2.59) and 2006 (2.54).
Following his time in Fauquier, Ranson coached the Harrisonburg (Va.) Turks in the Shenandoah Valley League, finishing in second place with a 28-18 overall record. His pitching staff ranked second nationally in team ERA (2.37), finishing atop the Valley League and ahead of teams from the Cape Cod, Coastal Plains, and Alaskan Leagues.
In the summer of 2009, Ranson helped guide the Forest City Owls, winning the Coastal Plain League Championship. The Owls finished as the No. 1 ranked summer baseball team by Perfect Game, finishing with a record of 51-9, and breaking numerous league records. He followed up the 2009 campaign with another quality season in 2010, winning another CPL title. The Owls finished with a 43-21 mark, leading the CPL in nearly every pitching statistic. Perfect Game tabbed the team as the No. 4 ranked team in the country.
Ranson resides in Elkton, Md.
