Bernie Szczepanek, who has served at the University of Delaware for 45 years in several positions, begins her 20th season with the Blue Hen athletics and recreation program in 2011-12.
A native of Marshallton, Del. and a 1963 graduate of Dickinson High School, Szczepanek began working with UD athletics and recreation in 1991 and currently serves as office coordinator, providing support for several offices, staff members, and coaches within the Delaware Field House.
She began her career at the University of Delaware in July, 1966 and has worked with the Records Office, Admissions, Financial Aid, Engineering and Construction, Plant Operations, Dining Services, Supporting Services, and the University Bookstore before moving over to athletics.
In addition to her career at UD, she also previously worked in credit bureaus in Wilmington, Del., Cincinnati, and Washington, D.C. doing credit ratings.
She and her husband, Al, reside in Newark and run a video and photography business. She also enjoys walking in her spare time. They have two nieces, Jamie Hedrick and Marisa Hedrick, who attend the University. Jamie is a member of the UD rowing squad.
