Associate Director of Athletics, Compliance

Rick Stumpf, who served in the athletics department at the University of South Florida since 2006, was named the University of Delaware Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance on Feb. 27, 2013.
Stumpf, who most recently held the title of Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance since June, 2008, replaced Brian Baptiste, who left Delaware to become Associate AD for Compliance at Northwestern University in January, 2013.
In his role at Delaware, Stumpf is responsible for directing, planning, and organizing all phases of Delaware's compliance program for 21 varsity sports, nearly 600 student-athletes, athletics department and University staff, representatives of athletics interests, and other outside constituencies. The position involves education, monitoring, and enforcement of University, CAA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
A native of Middletown, N.J., Stumpf received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Villanova University in 1999 and his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University Law School in 2002. While in law school, Stumpf served as a Sports Law Fellow for the Seton Hall Center for Sports Law.
Stumpf joined South Florida in June 2006 and served two years as Compliance Coordinator before being promoted to Assistant AD for Compliance in June, 2008. In addition to his day-to-day NCAA and Big East compliance responsibilities at USF, Stumpf also served on the Institutional Compliance & Ethics Counsel.
Prior to joining USF, Stumpf served as Compliance Intern/Legal Consultant at his alma mater, Villanova University, from September 2004-May 2006. While at Villanova, Stumpf’s responsibilities included calculating academic evaluations for prospects, administering the SAF/SAOF, auditing athletic department phone logs and playing and practice season logs, monitoring official visits, and supervising complimentary ticket distribution.
Prior to his career in intercollegiate athletics, Stumpf spent three years in the legal profession, specializing in corporate business transactions. He was admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Stumpf and his wife, Patricia, have a daughter, Grace.
