Student Assistant Coach Kim Stewart

Kim Stewart, a four-year standout who led the University of Delaware volleyball squad to four conference titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances during her career, will serve as a student assistant coach for the second straight year in 2013.
A native of Kentwood, Mich., Stewart finished out her undergraduate studies as an organizational and community leadership major at Delaware and earned her degree in January, 2013.
One of the all-time great hitters in Delaware history, Stewart was a part of Blue Hen teams that posted a cumulative record of 77-43, captured four Colonial Athletic Association regular season titles and three CAA Tournament, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2008, 2010, and 2011. Delaware won its first round NCAA game in 2011.
During her first year on the coaching staff, the Hens narrowly missed adding another title to their collection as they posted a 16-14 record, finished second in the CAA regular season standings, and advanced to the CAA Tournament championship game before falling in five sets to Hofstra.
Stewart was a three-time All-CAA selection, earning second team honors in 2009 and third team laurels in 2008 and 2011, was twice named to the COBRA Magazine All-Northeast Region Team, and was selected to the COBRA All-National Honorable Mention team. In addition, she was the 2008 CAA Rookie of the Year.
She served as co-captain and was selected as the UD Alumni Association Team Most Valuable Player as a senior in 2011 when the team put together a record 21-13, captured the CAA regular season title with an 11-3 record, and won the CAA Tournament title on the Hens' homecourt, Viera Court. In addition to earning third team All-CAA honors, she was named the CAA Tournament Most Valuable Player and was one of two Delaware student-athletes nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
For her career, she appeared in 130 games and recorded 1,222 kills, 110 aces, 1,439 digs, and 208 blocks. She ended her career ranking No. 9 all-time at Delaware for digs and No. 11 for kills.
In addition to her success on the court, Stewart was also named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and was one of the team's most active community service participants, taking part in elementary school mentoring, Special Olympics, Homeward Bound, and Breast Cancer Awareness activities.
