Former University of Delaware standout defender Ginna Lewing will begin her eighth season with the Blue Hen women's soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2011 season.
She will serve as head coach Scott Grzenda's top assistant for the seventh straight year. She helped the Blue Hens record one the top seasons in school history in 2005 when Delaware posted a record of 10-6-4, placed third in the Colonial Athletic Association regular season standings, and advanced to the CAA Tournament semifinals.
A two-year team co-captain at Delaware, Lewing was a four-year standout on defense for the Blue Hens, never missing a game and starting all 77 contests in her career. During that time, the Blue Hens never suffered a losing season and posted an overall mark of 41-30-6. She led the 2003 Blue Hen squad to a 10-6-3 overall record and a 5-2-2 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play for a third place finish.
Lewing, a native of Yardley, Pa. (Pennsbury High School), earned her degree in sport management from Delaware in May, 2005.
She earned honorable mention All-America East honors as a freshman in 2000 when she scored two goals and dished out four assists, was named to the America East All-Tournament team in 2001 as a sophomore when she recorded two goals and three assists, earned first team All-CAA honors as a junior in 2002 when she registered two goals and an assist, and added two goals in 2003 when she earned a spot on the All-CAA first team and was named the team's UD Alumni Association Most Valuable Player. She finished her career with eight goals and eight assists and had 53 shots on goal.
While a four-year letterwinner in soccer at Pennsbury High School, Lewing led the team to the 1999 state title and to a state runner-up spot in 2000. She also was a standout in swimming and field hockey.
