Show Your Spirit: National College Colors Day for Sept. 2
August 31, 2011
NEWARK, Del. -- By proclamation of the governor of Delaware, this Friday, Sept. 2, is College Colors Day.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans are encouraged to take part in the celebration by wearing blue and yellow wherever they go that day – class, meetings, the office, around the house and everywhere in between.
The nationwide event promotes school spirit as the school year starts and intercollegiate athletics kick off. Locally, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell signed a formal proclamation stating the day “promotes higher education in Delaware through increased public awareness and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities by acknowledging their critical and fundamental importance to the First State.”
Collegiate Licensing Company, the oldest and largest collegiate licensing agency in the U.S, organizes the nationwide celebration of College Colors Day. A television commercial, produced by CLC, features several universities taking part, including UD. Of the colleges featured, the University of Delaware is one of only two non-NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools, the other being the University of Montana.
“It’s an honor to be with such great company,” said David Brond, vice president for communications and marketing. "UD's participation in this annual event and national marketing campaign creates a great sense of pride for all Delaware fans.”
Blue Hen fans can get the 2011 Limited Edition UD football T-shirt at the new UD Bookstore on Main Street. The shirt features a Blue Hens football helmet with the tagline: "Saturdays since 1889, A Blue Hen Tradition." All UD merchandise will sell for 20 percent off on both Friday, Sept. 2, and Saturday, Sept. 3, so fans can "gear up in DelaWear."
Show your UD colors on Main Street and win a prize. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations will be serving Blue Hen Lemonade at the top of The Green from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Everyone wearing college colors will get a chance to spin a wheel and win special prizes.
