University of Delaware Names Maggie Hayon Assistant Director of Sports Information

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware recently announced the addition of Maggie Hayon (at right) as the Assistant Sports Information Director for the Blue Hens athletics program. She will serve as the primary media contact for the women’s basketball, field hockey, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis, and volleyball teams.
“We are excited to have Maggie join the Blue Hen family,” said Delaware Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations Scott Selheimer. “Maggie brings quality experience and she will be a great fit for our department. She has done outstanding work in publications and social media and her enthusiasm and passion for the field of media rleations is great to see.”
Hayon comes to the Blue Hens after spending time as the Director of Sports Information at NCAA Division I Delaware State University located in Dover. While there, she worked with the school’s 18 sports and was the primary contact for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country and track and field, equestrian, women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, and volleyball.
During her tenure, Hayon played a crucial role as DSU Athletics rolled out a redesigned website in August 2012. Additionally, she was key in developing media guides, posters and other various publications while enhancing the Hornets’ social media presence.
“This is an exciting time in my career,” Hayon commented. “I am honored to be joining the Blue Hens and really look forward to working with the administration, coaches, student-athletes, and UD community on a daily basis. I’ve witnessed what Scott and the rest of the Delaware athletics staff have been doing for the past few years and I feel extremely privileged to become a Blue Hen.”
Prior to joining Delaware State, Hayon spent nearly two years at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where she was the main contact for the men’s basketball, softball, and men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams.
Hayon graduated from Marquette University in May, 2008 with a B.A. in Public Relations and minor in Marketing. During her four years at MU, she worked for the Golden Eagles Athletic Department as an administrative student assistant and game-day staff.
Additionally, she spent two summers with the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club as a Media Relations Intern (2006) and Community Relations Intern (2007). Upon graduation from Marquette, Hayon completed an internship with Minor League Baseball’s Eugene Emeralds.
She is a native of Howards Grove, Wis. and is a doting aunt to her two-year-old nephew, Sullivan.
