Prior to each game, the team will be collecting items that are especially needed for the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware. Fans are encouraged to bring the following: cereal boxes (large & individual servings), canned meats, trash bags (tall kitchen), paper towels, storage containers (Gladlock), 8 x 12 x 2" deep disposable aluminum casserole pans, fabric softener sheets, disinfectant cleaner (Lysol), Soft Scrub, disinfectant wipes, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, Febreeze, scouring sponges, toilet paper, facial tissues, pillows, gas cards, or international phone cards.
“This would be a very special night for our program and the Delaware community to get behind because of all the good services that the Ronald McDonald House provides,” said Blue Hen men’s basketball head coach Monté Ross. “Anytime we can help out in a small way, we are eager to do it and we hope the Delaware community will get behind us and be just as eager.”
The UD women will take on No. 9 Maryland on Thursday, December 20 at the Bob Carpenter Center, while the men play the following night against the Penn Quakers. Both games will begin at 7 p.m., with BCC doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams will be visiting the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware on Thursday, December 13 to participate in the “Share-A-Night” event and help light the House for the upcoming holiday season. The teams will interact with families and sign autographs for those in attendance. The mission of the Ronald McDonald House is to provide nurturing and supportive environments and services to directly improve the health and well-being of children and to bring comfort to their families. The Ronald McDonald House of Delaware provides a safe, affordable “home away from home” to families of seriously or chronically ill or injured children who are being treated at area hospitals and operates three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms within pediatric units of hospitals across Delaware.
The House is a place where families can stay together and receive the kind of special care they need at such difficult times. Families find a bit of comfort and peace and a hot evening meal after a long day at the Hospital. The House has 56,000 square feet of living space with 50 guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. Staff and volunteers welcome families and visitors from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
