Team Blue Hen Athletics Wins Fourth Annual University of Delaware Alumni Weekend Blue Hen 5K

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware Athletics & Recreation Department showed off its athleticism to win the fourth annual Blue Hen 5K held last Saturday on the campus of University of Delaware during Alumni Weekend.
Competing against some 339 entrants, “Team Blue Hen Athletics” combined scores from seven team members to finish the fastest with a combined time of 2:39:35.0.
Members of the winning team consisted of UD women’s basketball associate head coach Jeanine Radice, athletics business manager Tim Anger, associate head athletic trainer Dan Watson, assistant soccer coach John Scheer, associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator Sue Groff, media relations assistant Lauren Boots, and assistant director of athletics and operations Alicia Greco.
For the second straight year, Mark Hannagan and Radice finished as the top runners. Hannagan led all runners with a time of 17:03, while Radice came in as the top female finisher, covering the course in 19:47.4.
Coming in as the top male finisher for the male 30 to 39 age group was Anger, completing the run in 19:10.3. Groff finished first in the female 40 to 49 age group with a time of 24:36.6.
The race also matched up UD's various academic and administrative units against one another in a bid for the rights to the President's Cup, which is based on participation and the top finishers of each group. For the first time, other departments beyond the colleges were encouraged to participate in the Cup. This year’s President’s Cup was awarded to the College of Arts and Sciences.
The Most Spirited Award was given to Bradley Lane for displaying positive sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the event.
Finishing second for the team competition was “Team Hangover” with a combined time of 3:01:37.5. The third place finisher was the UD Office of Undergraduate Admissions with a combined time of 3:43:22.2.
To kick off the 5K Run/Walk, a 1K Kids Fun Run took place around the Green for children ages 11 and under.
Hosted by the UD Office UD Alumni Relations, the Blue Hen 5K was sponsored by the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau, the UD Bookstore, Deer Park Tavern, Pepsi and NKS, and organized by Races2Run.com.
