WILMINGTON, Del. -- Clear Channel Media + Entertainment in partnership with the Blue Hens IMG Sports Network announced Tuesday that Scott Klatzkin has been named the new radio play-by-play announcer for University of Delaware football and men’s basketball on 94.7 WDSD-FM and WDSD.com beginning this fall.
Klatzkin (at right) is a 2007 graduate of the University of Delaware and began his sports broadcasting career at WVUD FM, the University’s student-run radio station. He was named Delaware Sportscaster of the Year in 2009 by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
He is a familiar voice in Delaware sports, previously providing play-by-play for Delaware State University football and basketball over the past four seasons along with Delaware high school football and basketball on WWTX-AM 1290 The Ticket and 1290TheTicket.com.
“Scott is an incredibly talented sports broadcasting professional who is passionate about University of Delaware sports,” said Chris Walus, Regional Market Manager, Clear Channel Media + Entertainment. “His appointment underlines our commitment to providing high quality talent for presenting world class
programming.”
He will continue his work as co-host with Jimmy Smith of Blue Hens Beat - the University of Delaware’s web-based bi-weekly sport program airing on BlueHens.com.
Klatzkin replaces Mike Corey, who has been the 94.7 WDSD FM sports play-by-play announcer for University of Delaware football and men’s basketball over the last 13 seasons.
Corey remains with Clear Channel Media + Entertainment-Delaware as an Account Executive and has accepted an increased role with ESPN sports television this fall.
"We are excited to have Scott join the Blue Hen athletics broadcast team," said University of Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Bernard Muir. "Scott is a rising star in the field and his work on radio broadcasts and with our own Blue Hens Beat web program has been impressive. He, like our fans, is passionate about Blue Hen athletics and it shows. I also want to thank Mike Corey for his many years of support and enthusiasm while covering Blue Hen athletics and we wish him continued success in his broadcasting career."
“No one has played a bigger role in shaping me as a broadcaster and professional than Mike Corey,” said Klatzkin, who will begin his tenure Aug. 30 when the Delaware football team hosts West Chester in the season opener at Delaware Stadium. “Through his guidance and mentoring, this long time dream is now a reality for me.”
“I first have to thank CCM + E for taking a chance on me and affording me the opportunity to sharpen my skills 13 years ago,” said Corey. “I am forever grateful to have begun my career here in Delaware, and many thanks, to the University of Delaware and the community for embracing me as they have over the years. I’m very excited to take the next step, and that is to move into TV full-time.”
Klatzkin will additionally oversee and host the K.C. Keeler Coach’s Show airing from Klondike Kate’s in Newark Wednesdays at 7 p.m. The first show will take place on Aug. 29. He will also produce and host Blue Hens Plus, a two-hour sports talk show airing Fridays on 1290 The Ticket during football and basketball seasons.
