NEWARK, Del. -- Junior guard Alphonso Dawson, who led the University of Delaware men's basketball team to two wins this week and averaged 19.0 points per game in the process, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 3.

Dawson, a junior University studies major from Harrisburg, Pa. (Harrisburg High School), led the Blue Hens to home victories of 82-72 in overtime over Lafayette on Wednesday night and 62-58 over Drexel in the team's Colonial Athletic Association opener on Saturday.

For his efforts, Dawson was also named this week's Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week.

The Hens, who improved to 5-8 (1-0 CAA), face a busy week as they travel to James Madison Monday at 7 p.m., host William & Mary Wednesday at 7 p.m., and head to Virginia Commonwealth Saturday at 2 p.m.

Dawson, who ranks No. 2 on the team this season in scoring (12.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.6 rpg), scored 23 points and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds in the win over Lafayette and added 15 points and seven rebounds against Drexel.

For the week, he hit on 14 of 28 shots from the field, was 3 for 10 from beyond the three-point line, and drained 7 of 10 free throws. He averaged 19.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists for the week.
