NEWARK, Del. -- Senior guard Marc Egerson, who led the Blue Hen men's basketball squad to a 2-0 week, including a big 81-79 upset over Virginia Commonwealth to open Colonial Athletic Association action on Saturday, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 5.

Egerson, a black American studies major from Wilmington, Del. (Glasgow High School), played a pivotal role in the 2-0 week for the Hens (7-7, 1-1 CAA) as he averaged 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the week.

He hit on 6 of 10 shots from the field, drained four three-pointers, and finished with 20 points and nine rebounds in a 74-62 home win over Toledo and followed that with a 19-point, 9-rebound effort in the 81-79 home win over VCU to open CAA play. He also had five assists and three-pointers in the win over VCU.

The Hens knocked off the pre-season favorite Rams and snapped a 10-game losing streak to VCU.

Delaware will continue action tonight with a CAA home game vs. Towson at the Bob Carpenter Center at 7 p.m.
