NEWARK, Del. -- Freshman Vicky Caruso, who won three events in leading the University of Delaware women's indoor track & field team to a second place finish at the Delaware Invitational Friday night, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 10.

Caruso, a freshman from Stockholm, N.J. (Walkill Valley High School), enjoyed her second straight impressive performance for the Blue Hens. In her college debut back in December, she set two school freshman records in the sprint events.

Delaware opened its home season Friday night at the Delaware Field House and posted seven first place finishes and 21 top five finishes to post 185 points and place second in the Division I team standings. Navy won the team title with 272.5 points followed by Delaware, Coppin State (69.5), La Salle (47), Saint Joseph’s (20), and Delaware State (6).

Caruso won the 60 meters in 7.94 seconds and the 200 meters in 25.64 and also teamed with Asia Hollis, Nijah Dupiche, and Kristi Cox to capture the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:59.94. She also placed second in the 500 meters with a time of 1:19.15.

Delaware will return to action this Friday, Jan. 15 when the Blue Hens compete at both the Gotham Invitational at the New York (N.Y.) Armory and at the Kutztown (Pa.) Invitational.
