NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware junior Christina Antonopoulos, who posted two third place finishes for the Blue Hen women's track and field team at the Penn State Indoor Track & Field Open Saturday at Ashenfelter Track, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 19.

The Delaware men recorded six top 10 finishes while the Blue Hen women had nine top 10 performances to cap a successful day of competition.

Antonopoulos was the Hens’ top performer on the day as she placed third in the mile run with a time of 5:01.44 and teamed with Karen Mandrachia, Tijen Ozcan, and Kellyn Wright to finish fourth in the distance medley relay with a clocking of 12:19.27. Her time in the mile was the fifth fastest in school history.

She earned the award for the second time this season after also being honored for her performance with the women's cross country team back on Nov. 23.

Antonopoulos is an honor student as a biochemistry major with a minor in German from York, Pa. (York Suburban High School).
