NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware senior Cristine Marquez, who posted two top 10 finishes to lead the Blue Hen women's indoor track and field squad at the New Balanace Invitational this past weekend, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending February 7.

Marquez, an elementary education major with a minor in English from Old Bridge, N.J. (Old Bridge HS) was the team’s top individual finisher with a second place showing in the 200 meters as she raced to a time of 24.86, just .02 behind the winner Lakeisha Kelley from Florida International. Marquez finished ahead of runners from Oklahoma, Syracuse, UCLA, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Tennessee, and Villanova to post the runner-up finish.

She also teamed with Karen Mandrachia, Vicky Caruso, and Kellyn Wright to place sixth in the distance medley relay (12:09.43) and partnered with Kristi Cox, Nijah Dupiche, and Caruso for a seventh place showing in the 4 x 200 meter relay with a school-record clocking of 1:39.84. The foursome shattered the previous school record of 1:49.8 set back in 1981 by Pam Hohler, Sue Tyler, Regina Knotts, and Laura Fauser.

Delaware will return to action this Friday when they return to the New York City Armory to take part in the Rider/Lafayette Invitational.
