NEWARK, Del. -- Marc Egerson, who played a key role in the Blue Hens' upset of rival Drexel in men's basketball last week, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 8.

Egerson, a senior black american studies major from Wilmington, Del. (Glasgow High School) and a second-year transfer from Georgetown, won the award for the second time this season.

The high-scoring 6-5 swingman led the 73-70 overtime upset over Drexel Wednesday at the Bob Carpenter Center as he poured in 23 points and pulled 11 rebounds as the Hens snapped the Dragons' seven-game winning streak and avenged a 79-69 setback to Drexel in Philadelphia back on Jan. 20.

Egerson also added 14 points and nine rebounds in the Hens' 70-67 setback to Georgia State in Atlanta on Saturday.

For the week, Egerson hit on 11 of 26 shots from the field, 4 of 10 three-pointers, and 11 of 17 free throws. He averaged 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as well.

He leads the CAA in rebounding with 10.5 per game and his 11 double-doubles this season is tops in the league and among the national leaders. He and Oklahoma standout Blake Griffin are the only two players in NCAA Division I to be averaging over 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this season.

Delaware (10-15, 4-9 CAA) will host George Mason this Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Bob Carpenter Center. The game will be televised live nationally on ESPNU.
