NEWARK, Del. -- Curtis Dickson, who continued an early season scoring spree for University of Delaware men's lacrosse team with five goals in a 14-9 loss to UMBC Saturday, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 15, 2009.

Dickson, a junior attackman from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (Riverside High School), scored three of his goals in the final quarter but it wasn't enough as the Blue Hens (1-1) suffered their first setback of the season.

No. 11 ranked UMBC, which was playing its season opener, struck for six unanswered goals in the opening quarter and held on for the win.

Dickson, who earned USILA honorable mention All-American honors in 2008, also earned pre-season USILA All-American honors this spring along with being named the pre-season Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year. The Hens have received votes in every pre-season poll and were picked No. 2 in the CAA pre-season coaches poll.

Delaware opened the season with a 13-2 win over Saint Joseph's Feb. 7 with Dickson recording four goals. His five goals vs. UMBC tied a school record and marked his 12th career hat trick. He has now scored at least one goal in 27 straight games, one shy of the UD record of 28 set by Haylor Osborn in 1962-64 and by Randy Powers in 1983-84.

Delaware will continue action next Saturday when the Hens travel to Fairfield for a 1 p.m game against the Stags in Fairfield, Conn.
