NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware sophomore Karen Mandrachia, who captured two first place finishes to lead the Blue Hen women's indoor track and field team to a second place finish at the Colonial Relays Saturday, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 22.

Mandrachia, an honors student as an exercise science major, captured the 800 meters in a time of 2:16.49 and teamed with Yianna Antonopoulos, Kim Atkins, and Kellyn Wright to win the 4 x 800 meter relay in a clocking of 9:31.54.

Mandrachia's time of 2:16.49 in the 800 meters was a personal best and the third best time in school history, less than a second off the UD record of 2:15.84 set by Erin Gemmill in 2003.

The Delaware women, who recorded five first palce finishes, finished second in the team standings behind Towson but ahead of Virginia Commonwealth, Northeastern, and James Madison in the meet hosted by the Hens at the Delaware Field House.

Delaware will continue action this Friday at the New York University Fasttrack
Invitational at the New YorkCity Armory.
