NEWARK, Del. --University of Delaware men's swimming standout Hans Gillan, who won four conference titles in leading the Blue Hens to a third place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships this past weekend, is tthe Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending February 28.

Gillan, a senior business major from Boca Raton, Fla. (North Broward Prep, Ga.), earned the award for the second time this season and for the fourth time in his career, was outstanding at the four-day meet held at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

He captured four events during the meet and totalled 57 total points, the second highest individual total of any athlete at the championships. He led Delaware to a third place team finish for the third straight year.

Among his victories were wins in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 400 freestyle relay, and 200 medley relay. He also placed second in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 medley relay. For his two-year career, he captured six CAA championship titles.

Gillan established four school records during the meet, finishing the 100 backstroke in 48.56, the 200 medley relay in 1:28.88, the 200 freestyle relay in 1:20.59, and the 400 medley relay in 3:16.2. He also set the CAA record in the 200 medley relay and surpassed the NCAA B qualifying standard in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle relay, 400 medley relay, and 400 freestyle relay.

Delaware will continue action this weekend at the University of Maryland Last Chance Meet at College Park, Md.
