NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware senior track and field standout Cristine Marquez, who earned All-East honors in three different events at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships this past weekend in Boston, is tthe Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 7.

Marquez, an elementary education major with a minor in English from Old Bridge, N.J. (Old Bridge HS), earned the award for the second time this season and for the fifth time in her stellar career for the Blue Hens.

She led the Blue Hens to a 22nd place overall finish at the two-day meet at the Reggie Lewis Center which wrapped up the 2010 indoor season. Marquez was a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships in the 400 meters but her time did not qualify for the meet.

Marquez led the Blue Hens once again as she earned All-East honors in three different events as she placed third in the 400 meters with a time of 54.33, sixth in the 200 meters with a clocking of 24.48, and teamed with freshman Vicky Caruso, junior Asia Hollis, and junior Kristi Cox to place sixth in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:45.83, just .09 off the team’s career best time.

Marquez has now won All-East indoor honors seven times in her career, including placing sixth in the 200 meters and seventh in the 400 meters a year ago, fourth in the 400 meters during the 2008 season, and eighth in the 400 meters in 2007 as a freshman.
