NEWARK, DE -- Cristine Marquez (at right), who set two school records and earned All-East honors at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 9.

Marquez, a sophomore from Old Bridge, NJ (Old Bridge High School), enjoyed an outstanding weekend as she earned All-East honors by placing fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.54. She placed eighth in the event last season as a freshman and her finish Sunday was the best by a Blue Hen woman competitor at the ECAC meet this decade.

Marquez advanced to the finals after a sixth place finish in the preliminaries Saturday when she broke her own school record with a clocking of 55.45. She also placed 12th in the 200 meters Saturday with a career-best time of 24.72, the second best time in UD history, but did not advance to the finals.

Marquez later joined senior Asha Quant and freshmen Kristi Cox and Kayla Hennessy in the 4 x 400 meter relay finals but the Hens placed ninth after being disqualified for dropping the baton on the first leg of the race.
