NEWARK, Del. -- Ryan Reed, who played a pivotal part in leading the University of Delaware baseball team to a three-game sweep over Marist this past weekend, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 15.

Reed, a business management from Milton, Del. (Cape Henlopen High School), led the Blue Hens to a 3-1 week as Delaware followed a 6-1 loss to Maryland Tuesday with wins of 10-8, 16-5, and 8-3 over Marist this weekend at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The senior catcher hit safely in all four games during the week and collected 10 hits in 17 at bats for an impressive .588 batting average. He also scored three runs, knocked in three runs, earned one walk, and was perfect on 26 chances in the field.

Reed's biggest moment of the week came in the 10-8 win over Marist on Friday as his two-out, three-run walk-off home run in the ninth inning sent the Hens to the win.

Last year's team Most Valuable Player, Reed is currently batting .451 with three home runs and eight runs batted in this season.

The Hens will host local rival Wilmington (Del.) University Tuesday and will open a three-game weekend set at Towson this Friday to open Colonial Athletic Association play.
