NEWARK, Del. -- Sophomore Justin Martinson, who captured the individual title at the George Washington University Golf Invitational Sunday, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the perid ending March 22.

Martinson, a first-year transfer from Charleston Southern and a native of Avondale, Pa. (Kennett High School)

An international relations major at Delaware, Martinson shot a 74 Saturday to finish with a two-day total of 145 and captured the individual title at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club.

Martinson shot a one-under par 71 over the 6,843-yard course Friday and finished with a 36-hole total of 145, besting runners-up Mark Stevens of Rhode Island and Brandon Rukin of host George Washington by one stroke. He also lead the Blue Hens to a fifth place finish in the team standings.

The Blue Hens have now finished fifth or better in all six tournaments this season. Martinson becomes the second Blue Hen to win an individual title this season and the first to win a spring individual championship since Joe McLister won the UD Scotty Duncan Memorial in 2006.

Delaware will continue action March 23-24 at the William & Mary/First Market Bank Invitational at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
