NEWARK, Del. -- Jessica Cerveny, who led the University of Delaware women's lacrosse squad to a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game on Saturday, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending May 4.

Cerveny, a senior goalkeeper from Islip, N.Y (Islip High School), closed out her career with two outstanding performances as she led the No. 2 seed Blue Hens to an 8-6 win over No. 3 seed Old Dominion in the CAA semifinals Thursday night before falling to No. 4 seed Towson 8-7 in the championshi game Saturday. Both games were played at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

The Hens closed out an outstanding 2009 campaign with a 10-8 record and its first trip to a conference title game since 1999.

Cerveny, a health and physical education major and a two-time first team All-CAA selection, posted 13 saves, allowed just six goals, and collected seven groundballs in the semifinal win over and posted 11 saves and four groundballs and allowed eight goals in the championship game loss to Towson. She earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament team for her efforts.

She finished the season ranked among the CAA leaders with an 8.37 goals against average and .511 save percentage and led the Blue Hens with 55 groundballs. Her 552 career saves ranks No. 4 all-time at Delaware.
