NEWARK, Del. -- Senior first baseman Ryan Cuneo, who led the University of Delaware baseball team to a perfect 4-0 week, including a weekend sweep of Virginia Commonwealth that clinched a spot in this week's Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending May 18.

Cuneo, a junior business major from Freehold, N.J. (Freehold High School) and a pre-season All-CAA selection, led the Hens (27-18, 11-10 CAA) to home wins of 6-4 over Maryland, and 6-1, 9-4, and 13-4 over VCU to finish the regular season on a high note.

The Blue Hens will head into this week's CAA Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will take on No. 1 seed George Mason at 12 noon Wednesday, May 20 at UNC Wilmington. The winner of the six-team, double elimination tournament will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Cuneo enjoyed an outstanding week as he batted .428in the four games and hit a home run in each of the victories over VCU. He went 6 for 14 at the plate, scored six runs, knocked in six, and walked four times.

In the VCU series alone, he batted .500 with five hits in 10 at bats, six runs scored, six RBI, and three home runs.

For the season, Cuneo is batting .292 and leads the squad with 16 home runs and 54 runs batted in while ranking second in runs scored with 45.
