NEWARK, Del. -- Charles Graves, who posted two interceptions and led an outstanding defensive effort in the University of Delaware's 16-15 football loss to No. 1 Richmond, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending September 14.

A senior free safety from Raleigh, N.C. (Southeast Raleigh High School) and a 2009 All-American, Graves led a spirited effort as the Blue Hens held the defending national champion Spiders to just 19 first downs and 306 total yards while forcing three turnovers.

The hotel, restaurant, and institutionsl management major posted two interceptions and also made four tackles on the day. The Hens battled the Spiders all day and held the lead heading into the fourth quarter before Richmond took over. Delaware had the chance to win the game in the final minute but a 23-yard field goal attempt was blocked.

Graves picked off Richmond wide receiver Donte Boston at the Delaware 35-yard line with 9:22 left in the second quarter to end one Richmond drive and returned another interception 33 yards with 8:18 left in the final quarter to give the ball back to the Hens.

Delaware will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Blue Hens host in-state rival Delaware State (0-1) in the first-ever meeting between th two teams in the regular season.

Kickoff is at 12 noon and the game will be televised regionally on The SportsFever Television Network.
