NEWARK, Del. -- Sophomore women's cross country runner Jessie Ermak, who led the University of Delaware to a first place team finish at the Blue Hens' own Blue & Gold Invitational Saturday morning, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending October 19.

Ermak (at right), a biology major with a minor in nutrition who hails from Newark, Del. (Newark High School), led all Blue Hen runners as she placed fourth overall and led Delaware to the team title.

She covered the five-kilometer White Clay Creek State Park course in a time of 19:03.39 to place fourth overall and just four seconds shy of a third place finish.

Delaware placed seven runners in the Top 20 and posted 46 points to earn the team title, outdistancing Colonial Athletic Association foe George Mason (65 points) in the 14-team field.

Ermak has competed in all four Delaware meets this season, also placing fourth at the Delaware Invitational back on Sept. 19 and placing 27th at the season-opening James Madison Open and 140th at the Paul Short Invitational.

The Blue Hens will be off this week in preparation for the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31 at James Madison's New Market (Va.) Battlefield State Park.

Ermak placed 66th overall last season as a freshman when Delaware placed fifth in the team standings.
