NEWARK, DE -- Emily Sammis (at right), a senior midfielder who led the University of Delaware women's soccer squad to a 1-1 week in Colonial Athletic Association play, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 22.

Sammis, a co-captain from Huntington, NY (Huntington High School), scored two goals to lead the Blue Hens (7-8, 3-5 CAA) to a 4-3 comeback win Sunday vs. Georgia State. Delaware started the week with a narrow 3-2 loss to UNC Wilmington.

A finance major, Sammis led the Blue Hens comeback vs. GSU (8-7, 3-5 CAA), which started with Delaware trailing 3-0 with 27 minutes left to play. She scored two goals in a 2:16 span while freshman forward Amy Pickard netted the game-winner in the 80th minute to cap a remarkable run that saw Delaware score four goals in 16:17.

Sammis ranks second on the team with six goals and has 10 for her career.
