NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware senior women's tennis player Elena Berry, who led the Blue Hens to a near perfect performance at the Lehigh University Invitational this past weekend, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending October 25.

Berry, a human services major from Bradenton, Fla. (Edison Academic Center), led the way as the Blue Hen women went 18-0 in matches over the weekend.

In doubles action on Saturday, Berry and Montse Ripoll paired to defeat Jane Carroll and Taylor Holt of Fordham, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.

Delaware went on to win 12 consecutive singles matches over Marist and Lehigh opponents. At No. 1 singles, Berry defeated Lehigh’s Julie Arthofer, 6-2, 6-4, before overpowering Marist’s Lukin, 6-0, 6-2.

For the 2009 fall season, Berry has posted a record of 6-3 in singles play and teamed to record a mark of 7-1 in doubles action. Her 58 career singles victories is the most among all active UD players and ranks No. 7 all-time in Delaware history.

The Hens concluded their fall schedule at Lehigh and will return to action on Feb. 7 with a dual meet at the University of Maryland.
