NEWARK, Del. -- Sophomore guard Tesia Harris, who led the University of Delaware women's basketballs squad to a season-opening win overe Columbia University Sunday, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 16.

Harris, a 5-10 sport management major from Dix Hills, N.Y. (Half Hollow Hills High School), helped the Blue Hens pull away from a 27-27 halftime deadlock and post a 62-48 triumph at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Harris scored 13 of Delaware’s first 17 points to start the game and finished with 18 to lead the Hens on five of 12 shooting from the field and six of seven from the free throw line. Harris was also aggressive on the boards, coming one rebound short of a double-double with nine.

The Hens, trying to rebound from a rare losing season in 2007-08 when Delaware won just seven games, got the season off to a flying start thanks to Harris.

As a freshman in 2007-08, Harris played in 29 games with 12 starts and ranked fifth on the team by scoring 5.4 points per game.

Delaware will continue action Nov. 19 at LaSalle in Philadelphia.
