Athlete photoNEWARK, DE -- Record-setting senior running back Omar Cuff, who led the No. 13 ranked Delaware football team to a dominating 44-7 win over No. 10 Delaware State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Friday, has been named the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 26.

Cuff, a senior theater major with a minor in black american studies at Delaware, wins the award for the second time this season.

The Landover, MD native enjoyed a record-setting day in the win over Delaware State as he rushed 38 times for a school record 288 yards and two touchdowns to help the Hens (9-3) advance to the NCAA quarterfinals Dec. 1 at No. 1 ranked Northern Iowa.

Cuff, the nation’s leading scorer, broke the UD single game rushing mark of 272 by Daryl Brown vs. Northeastern in 1994 and the single season rushing mark with 1,657 (old record 1,625 by Germaine Bennett in 2003).

He surpassed the 4,000-yard career rushing mark during the game and also extended his NCAA FCS single season touchdown record to 37. He also established a new NCAA single season rushing touchdown record with 33 and a new CAA career rushing touchdown record with 63.
