NEWARK, DE -- Junior women's swimming standout Maryann Walker, who led the Blue Hens to a sweep over host Loyola, Marist, and Drexel at the H2Ounds Invitational this past weekend, has been named the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec 2.

Walker (at right), a junior accounting major, posted four first place finishes, two seconds, and one third to lead the Blue Hen women to the sweep. Delaware (10-1) defeated host Loyola 222-148, Marist 226-144, and Drexel 256-112.

The team competed in its final meet of 2007 and will return to action Jan. 5 to take on Towson at home.

Walker, the defending Colonial Athletic Association 200 backstroke champion, was outstanding at Loyola, winning the 200 freestyle (1:55.68), the 200 backstroke (2:08.22), the 200 freestyle relay (with Rachel Greene, Donna Healey, and Sarah Begley), and the 400 medley relay (with Emily Smathers, Meghan Barber, and Begley in 4:00.68).

She also was second in the 800 freestyle relay (with Stephanie House, Begley, and Cortney Barry in 7:52.93) and the 400 freestyle relay (with Greene, Healey, and Cathy Gallagher in 3:38.41), and placed third in the 100 backstroke (1:00.20).
