NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware senior co-captain Maryann Walker, who led the Blue Hen women's swimming and diving team to a sweep over Marist and host Loyola at the Loyola H2ounds Invitational this past week, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending December 7.

Walker, an accounting major from Ellicott City, Md. (Mt. Hebron High School), led the UD women to wins of 252-123 over Marist and 235.5-129.5 over the host Greyhounds at the Mangione Aquatic Center.

Walker had a hand in four first place finishes as she captured the 200 backstroke (2:07.05) and joined Emily Smathers, Kellie Pastore, and Elise Kanegawa in winning the 400 medley relay (3:56.69), teamed with Erinne Butler, Anne Frigo, and Donna Healy in capturing the 200 freestyle relay (1:38.56), and was part of the winning 800 freestyle relay squad along witih Cortney Barry, Healy, and Kristen McBrien with a time of 7:45.52

Both the men and women will take a winter break before returning to the pool on January 10 at 1 p.m. when the squad continues Colonial Athletic Association action by facing the Towson Tigers in Maryland.
