NEWARK, DE -- Senior quarterback Joe Flacco, who led the Blue Hen football team to an NCAA football semifinal playoff win over Southern Illinois Saturday, has been named the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec 9.

Flacco (at right), a senior accounting major from Audubon, NJ (Audubon High School), led the 13th ranked Blue Hens to the 20-17 victory over No. 3 seed Southern Illinois in Carbondale, IL to give Delaware a berth in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Championship game this Friday vs. two-time defending national champion Appalachian State in Chattanooga, TN.

For the second straight week, the Hens overcame an early 10-0 deficit to pull out the road victory over higher ranked opponent.

Flacco completed 21 of 38 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns, an eight-yard strike to Robbie Agnone to put the Hens on the board with 12:13 left in the first half and a nine-yard scoring toss to Kervin Michaud with 7:31 remaining in the third stanza to give the Blue Hens a 14-10 lead.
