NEWARK, DE -- Freshman men's basketball standout Alphonso Dawson, who led the Blue Hens to a pair of victories over the last week, has been named the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec 24.

Dawson (at right), a freshman sport management major from Harrisburg, PA (Harrisburg High School), led the Blue Hen men (4-6) to wins of 71-60 over Vermont and 73-55 over Boston University to also earn Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in his young career.

He averaged 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over the two outings as he netted 11 points in the road win over Vermont, which snapped a two-game losing streak, and paced a triumphant return to the Bob Carpenter Center in the win over Boston University as he scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.

For the seasons, Dawson is averaging 9.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while dishing out 12 assists and recording nine steals.
