NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware sophomore guard Tesia Harris, who led the Blue Hen women's basketball squad to the title at the Loyola Marymount Holiday Classic in Los Angeles over the weekend, is the Wilmington Trust Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending Dec. 29.
Harris, a sophomore sport management major from Dix Hills, N.Y. (Half Hollow Hills High School), wins the award for the second time this season after also being honored on Nov. 16.
The Blue Hens (8-3), who ran their winning streak to six games and surpassed last year's win total for the entire season, opened the tournament with a 70-43 win over Stony Brook and followed with a 66-60 win over the host Lions.
Harris took home the tournament Most Valuable Player Award as she converted 10 of 24 shots from the field, connected on three three-pointers, drained 11 of 13 free throws, and averaged 6.5 rebounds and 17.0 points over the two games.
She socred 13 points, pulled seven reboundes, and dished out five assists in the win over Stony Brook and added 21 points, six rebounds, and four steals in the championship game victory over Loyola Marymount.
Harris and the Blue Hens return to action on Sunday, Jan. 4 when they open the CAA schedule by hosting Drexel at the Bob Carpenter Center at 1 p.m.
