NEWARK, Del. -- Senior middle hitter Michelle LaLonde, who enjoyed an outstanding week in leading the University of Delaware volleyball team to two victories and a share of the CAA regular season championships, is the Army ROTC Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week for the period ending November16.

LaLonde, an honor student as a biology major at Delaware, led the two-time defending CAA champion Blue Hens (19-7, 12-2 CAA) to wins of 3-0 over Northeastern on Friday night and 3-2 over Hofstra Sunday to secure the CAA co-championship with Virginia Commonwealth.

The Hens will be the No. 2 seed when they compete at the CAA Championships at top seed VCU Nov. 23-24 in Richmond, Va.. Delaware will take on No. 3 George Mason in the semifinals at 4 p.m. VCU will meet No. 4 seed William & Mary in the other semifinals. The winner of Tuesday's championship will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

LaLonde, a senior from Wooster, Ohio (Wooster High School), recorded 11 kills and hit an incredible .688 while posting nine blocks to pace the sweep over Northeastern. In the hard-fought five-set victory over Hofstra, she had six kills and four blocks.

For the week, LaLonde collected 17 kills, hit .350, had one dig, and registered 14 blocks.

Earlier this year LaLonde was named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District 2 All-Academic team.
