Baseball Bangs out 11 Hits but Falls to
George Washington, 4-3
ARLINGTON,
VA (April 28, 2005)-- The University of
Delaware baseball team fell to George
Washington University, 4-3 on Thursday
afternoon at Barcroft Park despite banging
out 11 hits and stranding 10 Colonial
runners on the base paths.
The
Blue Hens, who recorded their 17th game
with 10 or more hits of the 2005 season
and saw a four-game win streak come to a
halt, drop to 19-20 on the season while
George Washington improves to
27-13.
Brian
Valichka (Frederick, MD/Urbana) scattered
three hits including a double while Adam
Tsakonas (Pottstown, PA/Boyertown Area)
and Dan Richardson (Bear, DE/Caravel) each
had a pair of hits and a
double.
Chris
Garrick (Nesconset, NY/Smithtown) falls to
0-1 in his first decision while allowing
three runs on seven hits and striking out
six in five innings pitched.
Brad
Rosenblat led the Colonials with three
hits and an RBI while Josh Goldberg laid
out a pair of hits and Joe Michalski and
Mickey Shupin each doubled.
Avi
Rasowsky captured the victory for George
Washington and improves to 2-1 while Dan
Pfau picked up his fifth save of the
season.
The
Colonials wasted no time and captured an
early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first
inning with a pair of singles by Rosenblat
and Geoff Milsom.
Delaware
answered back to tie that score at 2-2 in
the top of the fourth inning when Kelly
Buber (Yuba City, CA/Yuba Community) led
off with a single down the left field line
and moved to third on Valichka's follow up
double. Tsakonas drove in Buber with an
infield single and Valichka crossed the
plate when Brandon Menchaca (Wilmington,
DE/Concord) grounded into a fielder's
choice that caught Tsakonas at second.
George
Washington broke the tie in the bottom of
the inning when Shupin doubled and was
sent home by Matt Owens who singled to
center field. The Colonials added the
game-winner in the bottom of the sixth
when Rosenblat sent a sacrifice fly to
right field that scored Owens who reached
on a walk. and advanced to third on a
stolen base and an overthrow.
The
Blue Hens tacked another run on the board
in the top of the seventh as Richardson
had a lead off double and scored when Ryan
Graham (Danville, IL/Triton) singled to
left.
Delaware
returns home on Friday, April 29 as it
takes on Colonial Athletic Association
opponent William & Mary at Bob Hannah
Stadium for the opening game of a three
game set slated for 3 p.m.
