University of Delaware's Billy Harris
Named Colonial Athletic Association
Pitcher of the Week
RICHMOND,
VA (March 21, 2005)-- University of
Delaware sophomore lefthander Billy Harris
(Bear, DE/Salesianum-at right) was named
Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of
the Week for the first time in his career
Monday.
This
is the Hens' third weekly honor in the
2005 season as Delaware has also claimed a
Co-Pitcher of the Week in Scott Rambo
(Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) and a Rookie
of the Week in Brandon Menchaca
(Wilmington, DE/Concord).
Harris
went the distance for the Blue Hens in his
first start of the 2005 season, a 5-3
victory over UMBC last Wednesday. He is
the only Delaware pitcher to complete nine
innings on the mound and one of only two
to throw a complete game.
The
lefty allowed three unearned runs on seven
hits while striking out eight in the
victory. Harris also made an appearance as
a reliever during Sunday's contest with
Penn State where he threw one inning of
scoreless relief.
Harris
(1-0) has made five appearances this
season and has pitched 14.1 innings.
During those outings he has allowed only
two earned runs for a 1.26 ERA and has
struck out 11 batters.
Delaware
fell in five of its six games last week
and is currently 7-11 on the season.
The
Hens host New York Tech on Wednesday,
March 23 at 2:30 p.m. at Bob Hannah
Stadium before opening conference play
this weekend with a three-game series
against Hofstra.
