The University of Delaware's Billy Harris Named Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week

RICHMOND, VA (March 21, 2005)-- University of Delaware sophomore lefthander Billy Harris (Bear, DE/Salesianum-at right) was named Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career Monday.

This is the Hens' third weekly honor in the 2005 season as Delaware has also claimed a Co-Pitcher of the Week in Scott Rambo (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) and a Rookie of the Week in Brandon Menchaca (Wilmington, DE/Concord).

Harris went the distance for the Blue Hens in his first start of the 2005 season, a 5-3 victory over UMBC last Wednesday. He is the only Delaware pitcher to complete nine innings on the mound and one of only two to throw a complete game.

The lefty allowed three unearned runs on seven hits while striking out eight in the victory. Harris also made an appearance as a reliever during Sunday's contest with Penn State where he threw one inning of scoreless relief.

Harris (1-0) has made five appearances this season and has pitched 14.1 innings. During those outings he has allowed only two earned runs for a 1.26 ERA and has struck out 11 batters.

Delaware fell in five of its six games last week and is currently 7-11 on the season.

The Hens host New York Tech on Wednesday, March 23 at 2:30 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium before opening conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Hofstra.
