Delaware's Mike McGuire Captures Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, VA (April 25, 2005)-- University of Delaware righthanded pitcher Mike MicGuire (Swarthmore, PA/Ridley-at right) captured the Colonial Athletic Association's Baseball Rookie of the Week honor on Monday and in so doing has earned the Blue Hens the honor for the second straight week as Dan Richardson (Bear, DE/Caravel) earned the choice last week.

This is Delaware's fourth Rookie of the Week overall as Brandon Menchaca (Wilmington, DE/Concord) is a two-time recipient of the award and the Hens seventh honor overall. McGuire is the first pitcher to take home Rookie of the Week as three other Delaware pitchers including Scott Rambo (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown), Brent Gaphardt (Bel Air, MD/Dundalk), and Billy Harris (Bear, DE/Salesianum) have each captured Pitcher of the Week during the 2005 season.

McGuire allowed just one run on four hits in Delaware's 4-2 series-opening victory over CAA opponent Old Dominion. The righty struck out nine and walked only two batters over seven innings and improves his record to 4-3 on the season. His ERA in conference play is 3.95 and he carries a 4.53 ERA overall.

Also earning weekly honors from the CAA was Towson third baseman Hans Falkenhan who, picked up Player of the week by smashing four home runs and batting .467. Earning the leagues pitching honor was Hofstra lefty Charlie Frago who, struck out six batters over five innings.

The Blue Hens (18-19, 7-5 CAA) claimed a three-game sweep over Old Dominion over the weekend and won four of five games overall. They return to action on Tuesday, April 26 when they face Wilmington College in a single game at Bob Hannah Stadium slated to begin at 3 p.m.
