Menchaca Named Colonial Athletic
Association Baseball Rookie of the
Week

VA-- University of Delaware freshman
Brandon Menchaca (Wilmington, DE/Concord)
was named Colonial Athletic Association
Rookie of the Week on Wednesday, giving
the Blue Hens their second consecutive
weekly honor from the conference as Scott
Rambo (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) earned
Co-Pitcher of the Week last
week.
Menchaca
was the Hens' lead off hitter in two
starts over the weekend and blasted
consecutive game-opening home runs against
the University of Massachusetts. He batted
4-for-7 over the weekend with three RBI,
three runs scored, and a triple while
leading Delaware to a three-game sweep of
the Minutemen.
Menchaca
has played in six of Delaware's nine games
and started five while batting .286 with
two home runs, a triple, six hits, six
RBI, four runs scored, and three stolen
bases.
The
Blue Hen offense exploded over the weekend
with 39 hits, five home runs, and 28 RBI
as Delaware won by scores of 3-2, 13-3,
and 13-1. Mitch Heckert (Harrisburg,
PA/Central Dauphin), Jason Rogers (New
Castle, DE/William Penn), and Rambo each
received credit for the wins.
The
Hens continue to play at home this weekend
when they face Stony Brook in a
doubleheader on Saturday, March 12
beginning at 12 noon.
