 Delaware's
Hagerich Blasts A Three-Run Homer to Lead
the Hens Past the Hawk's,
5-3
NEWARK,
DE (March 30, 2005)-- University of
Delaware outfielder Bryan Hagerich
(Somerset, PA/Somerset-at right) blasted
his fourth home run of the season, a
three-run blast over the left field fence
in the fourth inning, to lead the Hens
past Saint Joseph's 5-3 Wednesday
afternoon at Bob Hannah
Stadium.
Billy
Harris (Bear, DE/Salesanium) pitched eight
innings and remained undefeated at 2-0
while earning the win for the Hens (10-12,
2-1 CAA). The lefty allowed two earned
runs on eight hits and struck out five
before being replaced in the ninth by Chad
Kerfoot (Owings, MD/Northern) , who picked
up his first save of the season.
Jeff
Williams (1-2) suffered the loss for the
Hawks (4-16) who saw action from five
pitchers on the day.
Brandon
Menchaca (Wilmington, DE/Concord) extended
his hitting streak to 10 games with a
double in the bottom of the fifth. Brock
Donovan (New Castle, DE/William Penn) and
Brian Valichka (Frederick, MD/Urbana) also
doubled while Ryan Graham (Danville,
IL/Triton) rounded out the Hens' six hits
with a single.
The
Hawks were led by Kevin Walsh who doubled
twice in four at bats and added an RBI.
Greg Mason sent a solo home run to left
field and added a single while Nick
Baldasari doubled to
right-center.
The
Hawks wasted no time by putting a run on
the board in the top of the first with
consecutive doubles by Baldasari and
Walsh.
Delaware
answered back in the fourth inning as Todd
Davison (Somers Point, NJ/St. Augustine)
scored on Valichka's single after reaching
on a walk and stealing second. Hagerich's
three-run shot to left field brought home
Valichka and Adam Tsakonas (Pottstown,
PA/Boyertown Area), who had reached base
on a walk.
Mason's
homer in the top of the seventh cut the
Delaware lead to 4-2 but the Hens added
another run in the bottom of the eighth
when Valichka sent Davison home for the
second time by doubling to left.
Saint
Joseph's tried to even the game in the
ninth as Mason hit a leadoff double and
was replaced on the bag by Mike Blahusch.
Blahusch scored when Dustin Onulak singled
to right but that was all the Hawks could
muster as Jeremy Jakubowski struck out to
end the inning.
Delaware
returns to action on Thursday, March 31
when it travels La Salle for the first
round of the Liberty Bell Classic starting
at 3 p.m.
